The form can also be printed and completed -- or completed and printed -- and delivered to the Town Office, 990 Augusta Road, Belgrade, ME 04917. The Town Office is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and until 7 p.m. Thursdays. Please put completed applications to the attention of the town manager.

Code enforcement officer/Local plumbing inspector

The Town of Belgrade is seeking a code enforcement officer/local plumbing inspector to work up to 25 hours per week to equitably and fairly enforce municipal codes, planning ordinances and other regulations and laws. Among the essential duties are: 

  • Reviews all plans submitted with building and planning permit applications to ensure plans comply with ordinances and regulations.
  • Issues building and plumbing permits.
  • Inspects all plumbing (internal and external) for compliance with the State’s plumbing code.
  • Enforces the local shoreland zoning ordinance in accordance with procedures contained therein.
  • Investigates complaints of possible code violations, enforcing rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Attends Planning Board and Board of Appeals meetings to provide information and assist in their decision-making.
  • Keeps complete records of all essential transactions, including applications submitted, permits granted or denied, variances granted or denied, revocation actions, revocation of permits, appeals, court actions, violations investigated, violations found and fees collected.

Experience and certification is preferred, although the Town will consider other candidates. Applicants who lack certification must acquire that within a year of their hiring. 

Required office hours include 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays. Salary will be negotiable, depending upon one's experience.

Recreation director

The Town of Belgrade is seeking a recreation director to develop, implement and administer a comprehensive community recreation program that engages citizens of all ages throughout the year. Current programming includes summer day camps, a summer music series and craft shows on the Village Green, holiday celebrations, after-school care, and weekly offerings ranging from yoga to ping pong. Belgrade boasts two community centers, including the versatile Center for All Seasons in the village, and four parks, including the Village Green and Long Pond Beach. The recreation director's responsibilities include coordinating and supervising the work of staff and volunteers; developing, scheduling and executing programs; scheduling and contracting the use of facilities; maintaining program and financial records and preparing reports; publicizing and promoting programming; and engaging in public and community relations. 

Critical skills required include excellent communication skills, proficiency with technology, adept use of social media, an ability to work with children and with a wide variety of personalities, and proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously.

A bachelor’s degree with specialization in recreation leadership and management, or  an equivalent combination of experience and training, is preferred. The recreation director must be certified in first aid, CPR and as a lifeguard within six months of being hired.

This is a 40-hour per week position that includes some night and weekend work. Salary is negotiable, depending upon experience.

Deputy clerk

The Town of Belgrade is seeking a full-time deputy clerk who, in addition to providing excellent front-line customer service to citizens, is capable and interested in also serving the community as the Town’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles agent.

The deputy clerk assists the town clerk as needed, including in voter registration and during elections. In the town clerk’s absence, the deputy clerk may prepare state reports on vital records, inland fisheries and animal welfare.

Among other duties and responsibilities, the deputy clerk:

  • Collects payments on taxes and other types of revenue for the Town.
  • Processes all types of vehicle, boat and recreational vehicle registrations. As the BMV agent, the deputy clerk will serve as the Town’s point person with the state agency responsible for vehicle registrations.
  • Assists the Planning Board by compiling meeting packets. (Another Town employee takes meeting minutes.)
  • Issues vital records, licenses and permits, and answers questions by telephone and in person on a variety of issues.
  • Attends meetings/training to remain up-to-date on law changes.
