Planning Board Informational Meeting

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE

The Town of Belgrade Planning Board will hold a public informational meeting on its preliminary draft of proposed amendments to the Belgrade Commercial Development Review Ordinance to regulate new non-residential solar energy producing facilities. The meeting will be held on June 30, 2022, from 6

p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Belgrade Town office or via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83033101494.

The current draft of ordinance amendments will be available for your review on the Town website as soon as it is complete.

Members of the public and interested parties are invited to attend to ask questions, to make suggestions or to provide comments on the draft ordinance. Written comments may be submitted at the meeting as well.

The current draft has taken approximately 9 months to develop. It is based in part on model ordinances developed by the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments and Maine Audubon, findings and recommendations from a State of Massachusetts study of solar facilities in that state, as well as a review of other Maine municipal solar facility ordinances. The Planning Board also met with a Maine landscape architecture firm that specializes in assessing the visual impact of large-scale developments.

Comments and other input will be considered by the Planning Board before presenting a draft to the Belgrade Select Board for their review. Public hearings will be held at a later date. The Town's goal is to present a non-residential solar facility ordinance to voters at next November's election and before the Town's temporary commercial solar facility moratorium expires.
