Household Hazardous Waste event

Belgrade residents are invited to participate in a household hazardous waste event from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Winslow Public Works Building, 135 Halifax St. in Winslow. There is no fee.
Participants should pre-register with Transfer Station Director Ken Scheno at the Belgrade Transfer Station, which is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. The facility is also open noon-5 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 7.
Among the hazardous waste that will be accepted are batteries; electronics; gasoline, diesel and kerosene; paints; household chemicals and pesticides; and unwanted pharmaceuticals.
Items that will NOT be accepted include ammunition and explosives, trash and recyclables, textiles, fluorescent bulbs and asbestos.
