Transfer Station & Recycling Center

The Town of Belgrade provides its taxpayers with a convenient and modern transfer station for disposing a wide variety of solid wastes generated by households, offices, businesses and construction projects within Belgrade. The facility is available to both year-round and seasonal Belgrade residents. Residents of other towns may use the facility if their town of residence has entered into an inter-local waste management, pay-as-you-throw agreement with the Town of Belgrade. Please contact the Belgrade Town Office at 207-495-2258 for further information about this agreement. The Town Office, 990 Augusta Road, is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and CLOSED Wednesdays.

The Transfer Station offers a space for the disposal of most types of waste. Those collection areas include:

  • The hopper
  • The recycling center
  • Bulky wastes
  • Yard waste, brush and stumps
  • Clean demolition wood
  • Metals
  • Oils
  • Roofing shingles
  • Ashes (hot and cold)
  • Certain hazardous waste
  • “White” goods (of any color)
  • And the “too good to throw away” building for items that someone else may have a use for.

If you have a question about where or how to dispose of a particular item, please ask an attendant at the facility.

Transfer Station users must have a valid BTS (Belgrade Transfer Station) sticker affixed to the rear passenger-side window of their vehicle or have a temporary pass. Stickers and passes are available to residents from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, CLOSED WEDNESDAY, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Town Office - 990 Augusta Road. Proof of residency is required.

Please cooperate with and abide by our facility’s operating rules. Safety is our chief concern, and our solid waste license requires us to adhere to strict guidelines. Please refrain from bringing small children and pets to the facility. Refusal to follow Transfer Station rules may result in denial of your use of the facility.

Anyone proven to be responsible for the wanton and illegal disposal of trash, garbage, appliances, tires or hazardous materials in the Town of Belgrade is subject to fines of $200 or more.

The Transfer Station has free compost. Belgrade residents are welcome to bring a bucket and a shovel, and help themselves. If you want it loaded into the back of a pickup truck, see Transfer Station Director Ken Scheno. He'll arrange an appointment with you to do that.
