Public hearing on Town election warrant articles

public hearing
Event Date:
Wednesday, May 27, 2020 - 6:30pm

The Belgrade Board of Selectpersons on Wednesday, May 27, will host the first of three public hearings on the warrant articles on the ballot in the Town election July 14. This will be an opportunity for voters to ask questions about the articles, including the Town's budget, and learn more about the issues on the ballot.

The meeting will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. via the online meeting platform Zoom at this link. The hearing will also be broadcast live on the Town's Facebook page. Citizens may pose questions through either platform.

The warrant articles are listed in the Town's annual report, beginning on page 78.

The pandemic forced the cancellation of the Town Meeting in March. Because public gatherings of more than 50 people will not be allowed through the summer, the Selectboard opted to put all of the warrant articles to a secret ballot vote on July 14. The election will be combined with the state primaries and voters' consideration of RSU 18's 2020-21 budget.

To ensure maximum participation in the hearings, the Selectboard opted to have three hearings at varying times. The two other hearings will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, and at noon Thursday, July 9. They will also be conducted on Zoom and streamed on Facebook.
