Courtesy Boat Inspections

Courtesy Boat Inspectors reduce the spread of invasive aquatic plants by boats, trailers, other watercraft and fishing tackle to local waters. They inspect watercraft and trailers entering and leaving the water. CBIs also educate boaters to inspect their own boats, ensuring they do not transport unwanted plants.

7 Lakes Alliance has a mix of paid and volunteer CBIs that cover five ponds in the Belgrade Lakes region: Long Pond, Great Pond, North Pond, East Pond and McGrath Pond/Salmon Lake. Friends of Messalonskee also operates a CBI program in Messalonskee Lake/Snow Pond. CBIs cover the boat launches seven days per week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. In 2019, more than 10,000 boats were inspected at the five boat launches.
