The Board of Selectpersons and the Budget Committee will jointly review the draft budget for 2022 during a workshop at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Town Office, 990 Augusta Road. The public may also participate online via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81131427984. All Town board and committee meetings are open to the public. Belgrade voters will consider the municipal budget at the Town Meeting in March. Prior to that public vote, the Selectboard will conduct a public hearing on all of the warrant articles; the Board has decided to conduct the 2022 Town Meeting via secret ballot because of ongoing public health concerns related to the pandemic.
Proposed departmental costs total $244,942 more than what was budgeted in 2021. Of that, $204,800 is related to increasing the compensation package for Town employees, including wages, insurance premiums and retirement contributions, to ensure the Town's competitiveness in the employment marketplace. In 2021, the Town faced challenges attracting applicants. A survey of other area towns found Belgrade's compensation package lags behind that of other municipalities.
